CPhI: Fine Chemicals Are On the Up – Chem Week’s Alex Scott reports….
Friday, October 15th, 2010Top man Alex Scott of Chemical Week was in Paris last week covering CPhI. We caught up with Alex, who spoke to Gilles Cottier as part of his round-up of how the industry is shaping up following the economic downturn seen in 2008 and 2009.
“The outlook for the pharmaceutical fine chemicals market is a positive one, according to a straw poll of exhibitors interviewed by CW at the CPhI pharmaceuticals expo in Paris,” writes Scott. “Generally, the number of contract fine chemical projects going to tender is up, and companies say they are bidding for more pharma fine chemical projects and winning more as well when compared to a year ago.
“SAFC,” continue Scott, “says that the market for easy to make active pharma ingredients (API) is “not completely over the recession. Overall, however, the market is ‘positive,’ says Gilles Cottier, SAFC President, who added that funding for biotech is not where it should be – but we see growth in niche areas including high potency API.”
